Nizwa and Jabal Akhdar mountains

We start our route riding from Muscat to the Nizwa region. There we’ll have an opportunity to see the imposing Nizwa Fort — the most attended monument of Oman. The fort was built almost 370 years ago and it’s based on the stream of water underneath. Surely, it’s one of the best castles of that period worth seeing. Then we’ll make a visit to Nizwa Souq. At the market you can buy traditional knives, pots and other unique items.
Our next sight is the ruins of the Birkat Al Mauz village. Now it’s been abandoned for more than 50 years, but back in the day there were significant plantations of bananas. Here you’ll see how simple Omani people lived before. Also, you’ll have a chance to see Aflaj irrigation systems that are in a list of UNESCO World heritage. On our way to Wadi Al Madreen we’ll enjoy the exotic landscapes and oases of this place.
After that, we’ll go along the twisty road (36km) to the mountain Jebel Akhdar. There is a lot of greenery around and the climate is cool there, so going the way is pleasant. Not without reason this region is called the green jewel.
Fruit Orchards are the thing the Jebel Al Akhdar is well-known for, and during the way you’ll notice lots of various trees that grow there. Both Aflaj system and rains water such plantations. In the early spring bushes of roses bloom there and the scent in the air is really impressive.
And the final point of our route is Muscat.
